About Jedediah Davis State Park

Jedediah Davis State Park is located in York County, North Carolina, along the southern banks of Lake Wylie, a large reservoir on the Catawba River. The park covers over 238 acres of diverse riverine habitat, woodlands, and shoreline that provide important spaces for wildlife and outdoor recreation. Ecologically, the park supports a mix of hardwood forests including oak, hickory, and pine, as well as habitats for birds, turtles, amphibians, and various fish species. Established in 1972, Jedediah Davis began the donation of this land with a vision of protecting the natural area and providing public access to Lake Wylie. Visitors can enjoy hiking on multiple trails winding through the forest, fishing in the clear waters of the lake, and paddling in canoes or kayaks launched from the park's boat ramp. The park has a family-friendly campground with sites on or near the lakeshore, offering fishing and swimming opportunities directly accessible from the campsites. A small interpretive trail system allows for wildlife observation and quiet nature walks. The park is also popular for picnicking and birdwatching due to its calm, scenic environment. Its proximity to urban areas like Charlotte and Rock Hill makes it a convenient day-use or overnight getaway for nature enthusiasts and anglers. Overall, Jedediah Davis State Park combines natural tranquility with accessible water-based recreation, appealing especially to families and small groups seeking a less commercialized outdoor experience.
